Get a job AND keep it!

If you’re unemployed and live in the Leicester City or Leicester area, then the Skills Support for the Unemployed (SSU) programme can get you back into work by improving your skills and confidence.

It works by providing a package of vocational skills training based on what local employers need.  You’ve probably already got a lot of work and life skills so with a bit of updating and adding the skills the employers need, you’ll stand a much better chance of getting a job AND keeping it.

The programme is flexible and is delivered by people who understand the challenges you may have been facing.  In a nutshell, you’ll achieve your goals and employers get new staff with the right set of skills, so everyone wins.

Is it for you?

If you’ve been struggling to find a job, we understand you might feel a little downhearted.  That’s why the support you’ll get is tailored to your specific needs to help you to find a job that really suits you.

The good news is that there are no special eligibility requirements as long as you are 16 or over and are a legal resident with the right to take paid employment in the UK.

How will it help you?

  • A one-to-one in-depth assessment will make sure that the support you get is right for you.
  • Employability training is accredited so employers will recognise its value.
  • Planning your development, setting your goals and polishing up you CV will improve your chances of success.
  • Assistance with looking for the right job and interview techniques will get you ‘job ready’.
  • If you’ve considered self-employment or starting a business, you can also get relevant and practical advice.
  • Getting some real work experience will sharpen your skills and show employers that you’re up for it so there’ll be work placement opportunities too.
  • The support doesn’t stop once you’re in work. In-work support available for up to 13 weeks.
  • You can add also to your life skills through personal development including building confidence, motivation and team working.

What sort of training will you get?

We know that everyone learns in different ways, so the training is designed to suit the way you learn.  This might be sessions with a tutor so you can gain an accredited qualification, face-to-face mentoring or classroom support.

And when it’s time to apply for jobs, you’ll get more support with things like online applications and creating CVs that make you stand out from the crowd.

Can it lead to anything else?

If you need to develop further skills through training you’ll be signposted onto relevant courses, support groups and other programmes.  The Workpays team will support you through the process.
