IT Technology Apprentice

Do you want to use your passion for technology in a business environment to support service users with technical IT related issues, integrating digital technologies and developing digital solutions? This could involve email, telephone or face to face support on infrastructure, networking, mobile and operating systems and security. The apprentice will also have the opportunity to engage with a range of media and software, both on a development and operational level.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Infrastructure Technician
  • Microsoft MTA Cloud Fundamentals
  • Microsoft MTA Networking Fundamentals
  • Microsoft MTA Software Development Fundamentals
  • Microsoft MTA Mobility & Devices Fundamentals
  • ITIL Foundation Certification

Vacancy Description:

As an apprentice you will be working in an IT role and carrying out the following duties:

  • Resolve problems associated with operating systems, networks, software, hardware, printers etc.
  • Service desk support– diagnosis of IT issues and supporting users remotely using remote connection tools.
  • Installation of new software and hardware
  • Maintain and fix other computing equipment
  • Assist in system upgrades and system maintenance
  • Liaise with third party suppliers such as Internet Service Providers and vendors
  • Support with technology asset management
  • Social media and website updates
  • Supporting staff to implement new technologies in the workplace
  • Working with a range of technology hardware -Android, Windows, Mac
  • Supporting software development and implementation
  • Supporting the use of database systems and Content Management Software
  • Use of a ticketing system for task allocation/monitoring

Training to be provided:

NVQ, Key Skills, Technical Certificates and any training provided for the job role e.g. Health and Safety, First Aid etc.

Your training will be provided by Primary Goal, an award-winning training provider specialising in the digital industries.

As a Primary Goal apprentice, you will have access to:

  • Comprehensive pre-apprenticeship induction programme (including health and safety and technical specifics)
  • Level 3 Infrastructure Technician apprenticeship standard (Networking and Architecture, Mobile and Operating Systems & Security, Cloud Services, Coding and Logic, Business Processes)
  • e-learning training materials
  • Specialist vendor and technical certificates
  • Access to practice labs to develop technical competency
  • Knowledge Base
  • Monthly assessor visits and competency checks
  • Support desk (technical and pastoral)
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills and Key Skills development
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities module
  • Functional Skills or GCSE English, maths and ICT if required

Being part of the Primary Goal community will give apprentices access to a range of other apprentices (with varying levels of experience) who can share good practice and offer suggestions and support. Our apprentices love being able to help each other!  Apprentices will have access to specialist industry partners for technology on hand to provide advice and support, access to resources and themed training days.

The Primary Goal portal is an online dashboard that will provide apprentices with a knowledge base to access information and technical guidance, as well as links to the helpdesk to speak to technicians who can give real-time advice and support.

Desired skills

  • True passion for new and emerging technology. Is enthusiastic about digital developments and has an active interest in IT keeps up to date with current technology and trends
  • Confidence when using a range of hardware, software and technical devices
  • Experience of Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to work in a team and deliver good customer care and communicate clearly with others
  • Able to demonstrate an aptitude for the skills taught in the Apprenticeship (for example through work experience, qualifications or references)
  • Any understanding of programming languages (Java, PHP, SQL or XML) would definitely be a benefit.

Desired Qualifications:

We are looking for someone who is: -

  • Educated to GCSE standard (English and Maths grade 4 or above) or equivalent is highly desirable but applicants who are willing to work towards their Level 2 Functional Skills will also be considered.

Things to consider:

Working across a number of government funded and commercial contracts and databases. Equipment will be both laptop and desk top computers, for staff and participants. Some staff are based in our centres other may need remote support as working peripatetically

Working Week:

Specific hours each day to be determined prior to appointment

Monday to Friday -0830-1700

Paid hours per week:

37.5 hours per week

Weekly Wage or Hourly Rate:

National minimum wage based on the age  i.e. £6.15 (18-20 year old)

Plus - Holiday allocation 25 days, plus bank holidays

Expected Duration:

15-18 months depending on requirement for functional skills
